HISTÓRIA PESTOVANIA JEDLÝCH A LIEČIVÝCH HÚB
> Na zemskom povrchu sú iné civilizácie, ktoré to robili pred ľuďmi a hoci nevieme spôsob a proces, ktorým domestifikácia prechádzala, môžeme aspoň študovať výsledok a hľadať v ňom pre sebapoučenie (Ginterová, 1989). Americký zoológ Weber v roku 1972 vydal ilustrovanú knihu o mravcoch v ktorej opisuje čeľaď Atta, najmä druhy Atta cephalotes a Atta sexdens, ktoré si vo svojich komplikovaných chodbami prevŕtaných mraveniskách dopestúvajú hubu Rozites gongylophora. Podobné správanie bolo pozorované aj pri lykožrútovi obyčajnom, kde samička pri kladení vajíčok infikuje okolité drevo mycéliom huby, ktoré potom slúži ako potrava pre larvy (1956). Podľa (Sanchez, 2004) Lentinus edodes bola prvou pestovanou hubou vo svete a to v Číne medzi rokmi 1000 - 1100 n. l.; Agaricus bisporus vo Francúzku okolo roku 1600 n. l. a Pleurotus ostreatus v USA v roku 1900. Techniky pestovania ostatných menej populárnych húb boli pravdepodobne rozvinuté v Číne v období rokov 600 až 1800 n . l.
Z 12 000 druhov húb, ktoré môžeme v plnom slova zmysle považovať za huby len niečo cez 2000 preukazuje rozličný stupeň stráviteľnosti (Chang, 1999). Z týchto niečo vyše 200 druhov bolo resp. je zbieraných v prírode a využívaných ako tradičné liečivá prevažne na ďalekom východe. V dnešnej dobe je vo svete komerčne pestovaných okolo 35 druhov z ktorých 20 je pestovaných aj vo veľkovýrobe. Najpestovanejšou hubou vo svete je Agaricus bisporus nasledovaná Lentinus edodes (húževnatec jedlý - Shii-take), Pleurotus sp. (hliva-Hiratake), Auricula auricula (judášovo ucho), Flammulina velutipes (peniazovka zamatovohlúbiková) a Volvariella volvacea (pošvovec pruhovaný) (Chang, 1999).
Na Slovensku je tradícia pestovania húb veľmi krátka. Siaha do päťdesiatych rokov minulého storočia. O popularizáciu pestovania húb na Slovensku sa v najväčšej miere zaslúžili p. Ginter a p. Ginterová, ktorí v 70-tych rokoch minulého storočia začali so zberom a zhromažďovaním divých v prírode sa vyskytujúcich kmeňov hlív, ich selekciou, a šľachtením prevažne pre komerčné účely. Prakticky ich môžeme považovať za priekopníkov moderného šľachtenia a pestovania hlív na Slovensku. Vývoj pestovania húb vo svete sa v poslednom období dynamizuje predovšetkým z dôvodu získavania ľahko prístupných bielkovín pre menej rozvinuté krajiny ale taktiež z dôvodu ich popularity v rozvinutých bohatých krajinách. Celosvetová komerčná produkcia húb tvorí približne 5 x 106 ton čerstvých húb ročne, (tabuľka 1).
